Washed Up In Walberswick
WASHED UP IN WALBERSWICK arrives at Southwold Arts Centre this autumn.
ANYTHING CAN WASH UP ON THE NORTH SEA COAST …
So far and for no good reason this company has created a tranche of tasteless
comedies, featuring sexual shenanigans and frivolous filth, including Death in
Southwold, No Sex in Southwold, Sex & Death in Southwold, and last year’s
infamous Salacious Secrets in Southwold.
“Very seaside, and actually remarkable and well-disguisedly intelligent fun…it’s a
hoot”. Libby Purves (TheatreCat Review Sept 2025)
Behind the mellow brick walls and tall yew hedges, what goes on amongst the
media folk of Walberswick?
What dark deals, what dread deeds are done? What deceits and delusions are
devised?
As usual, we are taking a long hard look at this part of the world.
An important play must be written, to address all of our most pressing
problems:
Coastal Erosion, Net Zero, Small Boats, Climate Change, AI, Potholes.
Unfortunately this is not that play. This is a superficial comedy about people
behaving badly in big houses.
Only one thing is certain: this play is written especially for our long-suffering out-flung
patch of the Eastern Region, dedicated to the lucky people who live here, (and any
left-over summer visitors), and if in this new drama they get what they deserve, then
lucky old them.
This production is supported by FESPA.
