Making A Movie

In 2019 Steve Collins, an Accountant from Norfolk, declared to the world that he was going to make a feature length movie! Not knowing where to start he assembled a team of close friends in the form of Tom a Box Office Analyst and proud owner of a Masters degree in Script Writing, Brad a Structural Engineer with a passion for amateur film making, and Paul a Property Manager and Comedy Promoter.

Fast forward to 2022, having toiled away through the global pandemic, Zoom call’s with Dom Joly, and countless hours of script writing, the team have written a dark comedy screenplay about the relationship between a terminally ill Father from Great Yarmouth and the dynamic between him and his dysfunctional sons whilst he is on his final journey. The writers have been documenting their film making journey for a TV show about the complete process required to make a movie on a budget.

On Sunday 5th June at 6pm, the team have arranged for a table read at Southwold Arts Centre where the script will be read out loud by a team of actors including distinguished comedy actors and comedians Dave Johns (I Daniel Blake and Fishermen's Friends) and Mick Ferry (Looking for Eric).

This table read event is also being filmed as part of a documentary. The event is £5 to enter but everything aside from small ticket admin will be given to the Macmillan Cancer charity.

Dave Johns and Mick Ferry will also provide short stand-up sets to entertain and warm up the audience. Steve Collins said, "This is our first attempt at making a movie and we thought that it would be amazing fun to document the process and share that with as many people as possible. I hope local people can support us for what should be a fun packed evening." Local comedy promoter Paul Dunn (WCB Comedy) is also on the writing team and it's by his influence that comics are being pulled in. "I have been running comedy nights in East Anglia for over a decade so it seemed obvious to me to make use of connections in that world." Paul has just announced gigs at Ocean Room in Gorleston with Lee Nelson creator Simon Brodkin and at both the Ocean Room and Southwold Arts Centre with Andy Parsons.
