“East Anglia was the Broadway or West End of 15 th century English theatre.” So said a stage historian and this Spring Eastern Angles brings two of its biggest hits to life in Medieval Miracles. The Trials of Mary and Mankind combine the story of the Nativity with a mischievous test of an Everyman figure.
Taken from a series of mystery plays, The Trials of Mary sees God taken to task for allowing Heaven to be empty and Hell to be standing room only! What’s to be done? Should He lower the bar? Cue the search for an Immaculate Conception, some starry-eyed shepherd and three be-spangled wise ones – but whose idea was it and will any of it work?
The answer comes in Mankind – a boisterous story of a climate conscious young man caught between the temptations of three mischievous devils and the need to be a good person.
With live music, humour, storytelling and high jinx, Medieval Miracles promises to be a magical experience that will put the region’s buzzing medieval theatre scene into dazzling modern light.
